Circular walk fron Casa Carolina via ridgeway and the village of Costeni (About 6-7 kilometres)
Leave Casa Carolina by the top gate at the junction of the track outside and the ridgeway. Turn right along the ridge way track going uphill for about 150 metres. There are beautiful views down he undulating pastures to the houses dotted around the valley amongst the hayricks. The wooded slopes of Satra Mountain provide the backdrop. Colourful and delicate wild flowers decorate the foreground along the track.
Continue along the track from the crest of the hill until there is a track branching off to the right. Here you can deviate by turning right to admire Sylvia’s Maternal Grandmother and Grandfather’s traditional wooden house set in a beautiful flower meadow overlooking the village of Cupseni. To continue, retrace your steps back to the ridgeway and turn right to continue.
View of Satra Mountain
After about half a kilometre the track reveals a wide sweeping panorama of the hills and forests ahead to the right of Satra Mountain. The white rectangular structure in the middle distance is the water tank which supplies the village. (Photo on left)
Carry on along the track for about half a kilometre until you reach a ‘T’ junction. Here you turn left downhill towards the Northern end of Costeni village. The track comes out in a field half way down and swoops around to the right and then the left before descending down into the valley where it becomes less obvious. Here, just head straight ahead with Satra Mountain in front of you and to your right until you reach a track crossing your path. Turn left along the track towards the village of Costeni.
The path takes you all the way through the village (keep left at each junction) over the little stream and past the modern church with it’s silver domed towers.
Turn onto track from the road to Cupseni
At the end of the village turn left up the road rather than the unmade road which goes over the hills to Stoiceni (possible substantial walk extension but you would come back the way you came to this turning). The road snakes up the hillside towards Cupseni. At the top of the hill turn left by the cross (Photo on left) along a track heading back towards Casa Carolina. About half a kilometre on take a turn to the right (continuing straight on takes you back to Casa Carolina). This takes you past the ‘flat fields’ and an uninhabited traditional house and barn on the left with a pretty little orchard on the right. Continue on for about 150 metres with Tibles Mountain in the distance ahead. The track then turns to the left. Continue until you come to a ‘T’ junction. Turn left here taking the track uphill. This should be familiar as being the track up from the village road (with the Casa Carolina sign and yellow bicycle at the bottom). Follow the track until you come to a left fork with a wooden house opposite and another sign pointing left to Casa Carolina. Just 200 metres or so you are back at the house.
